Watch for Motorcyclists
Motorcycle Awareness Campaigns Only Work

if We Support Them

I am proud to give back to the biker community, and put a lot of effort into education and awareness campaigns to prevent motorcycle accidents. Most motorcycle awareness campaigns are geared towards motor-vehicle driver education and awareness. Without driver awareness, there is no safe riding.

Motorcycle awareness campaigns only work if we, the members of the motorcycling community, support them. This year, make a commitment to promote motorcycle awareness in your community. News Roundup:

We've been busy getting the word out about these important issues. Here are some of the articles we have published in the last month

Combi USA Car Seat Recall
If you own a Combi car seat, please click the link above to read more and find out if you need to contact the manufacturer. Combi issued a recall statement for three models of their car seats due to a concern about their safety harnesses. The models, Coccoro, Zeus 360, and Zeus Turn, were produced between 2007 and 2012. UPDATE: Graco is also recalling millions of car seats for safety concerns. See our blog for details.

Changes Planned in 2014 for Michigan Bicyclists

Good news! Bicyclists now have the option of signaling a right-hand turn with your right arm, effectively pointing in the direction you plan to move. New bike lanes, trail extensions, and other bicycling perks are also planned for areas in and around Metro Detroit over the course of the next year. Click the link above to see the full article, or visit our website to learn more about the new right-hand turn law.

NTSB Not Watching for Motorcycles This Year
In spite of a 15% increase in motorcyclist injuries in 2012, NTSB did not include motorcycle safety and awareness on its Top 10 Most Wanted List of Transportation Improvements for 2014. This is basically a slap in the face to the biker community. We need safety organizations to support motorcycle awareness campaigns and driver education. Instead, NTSB's only mention of motorcycling was a small note about helmets. Read the full article by clicking the link above.

Eleven People Killed in Wrong-Way Highway Crashes in One Night
I want to express my condolences to the families and friends of the eleven people killed in two separate wrong-way highway collisions on Sunday, February 9. Five people were killed in Florida and six in California by drivers who were travelling in the wrong direction on the freeway. It's a terrible tragedy and an awful reminder of the consequences of driver negligence. You can read the entire article by clicking the link above.
