Recall Notice: Do You Own a 2014 ABS-Equipped Harley-Davidson Touring Bike?

As The Motorcycle Lawyer, my job is to help crash victims and their loved ones. A motorcycle crash is devastating to everyone involved, which is the reason behind my commitment to giving back to the biker community. One of the ways I give back is by trying to prevent crashes from happening, which is why I wanted to spread the word about Harley-Davidson's massive recall announced yesterday.

If you own a 2014 ABS-equipped Touring bike, please visit safercar.gov, the recall site run by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The site provides detailed information about the problem and a list of affected motorcycles.

The issue that sparked the recall is the potential for the front wheel to lock up while the bike is in motion. There is a possibility for the front brake line to get trapped between the fuel tank and the bike frame, which increases brake fluid pressure. If your front wheel locks up while you are riding, it could cause you to crash and, potentially, to be injured.

If you own one of the affected bikes, I suggest that you contact Harley-Davidson's customer service line at

1-800-258-2464 before you ride again to make sure your bike is safe. Harley-Davidson will be reaching out to owners of affected bikes starting this month (July 2014), and dealers will be making necessary repairs for free. Repairs will include installing cables to prevent the brake line from becoming pinched, and possibly replacing brake lines if they are damaged.
