What is Michigan No-Fault reform for motorcycles?

In July 2020 a number of changes in Michigan’s no-fault law took effect.  The worst change which some people call No-Fault reform affected motorcyclists.

A little background will help explain: motorcyclists are entitled to No-Fault benefits when a motor vehicle is involved in the crash.  Before July 1, 2020, no-fault benefits included unlimited payment for medical treatment for life.  When our No-Fault system changed to PIP medical choice, we had to choose the amount of medical coverage we wanted on our cars trucks and vans.

Because motorcyclists get their No-Fault benefits first from the motor vehicle involved in the crash, they now are at the mercy of what that negligent driver chose for his or her own medical coverage.
