Michigan Autocycle Helmet Law

Helmet Law – In Michigan, an autocycle is considered a motorcycle under Michigan's No-Fault Law. However, you don't need to wear a helmet when operating an autocycle. You don't need a motorcycle endorsement to ride or operate an autocycle. YOU DO NEED INSURANCE, and you must wear a seat belt.

No Helmet is Required For Autocycles In Michigan

In 2012, Michigan passed a law giving street-legal motorcycle operators 21 years and older the option to wear a helmet or not when operating on roadways and requiring operators and passenger under 21 to wear a helmet. This motorcycle helmet law does not apply to autocycles. There is no requirement to wear a helmet when riding an autocycle. An autocycle is a 3-wheeled vehicle, two wheels in front and one in back. The legally operated autocycle in Michigan has a seatbelt and roll bar by law.
