Do you need a lawyer for your Michigan motorcycle injury accident case?

Sure, it is possible to settle a motorcycle accident case by representing yourself, but it is not the best idea, especially in Michigan.

First, Michigan’s No-Fault law is complicated and even seasoned auto accident lawyers do not know the nuances of how different motorcyclist are treated.  Certain claims must be timely made with the appropriate insurance company.  If they are not, you could be stuck with vast medical bills that could have been paid.

Further, an attorney will know all the benefits you are entitled to.  I have explained the law to many motorcyclists after a wreck and they often tell me, “The insurance adjuster did not tell me I could get that.”

There are potentially many avenues of recovery for your damages.  We know all of them and will explore each, so you get the most.  For example, is the owner of the vehicle involved responsible under the law?  Does the owner of the vehicle have a separate insurance policy?  Is there a special insurance policy on the motorcycle or any vehicle that will pay you additional compensation?  Is there an umbrella policy?  Is there a special notice required in your type of motorcycle accident case?

Cases are usually concluded faster with a lawyer.  I’ve received many calls from victims of motorcycle injury accidents who said, “I wish I called you first, but the insurance adjuster said, ‘I did not have to have a lawyer’ and they promised to make me a fair offer.  They had me give a recorded statement, sign medical records authorizations….  After months of begging them, they finally gave me a low-ball offer. I hope I didn’t hurt my case.”

Well, sometimes this does hurt your case.

Do not get taken advantage of:

1. Do not even talk to the negligent driver’s insurance company let alone give a recorded statement.
2. Do not sign anything unless a lawyer reviews it first.  Signing their blank ‘Records Authorization’ allows them to potentially get all your life long medical records from every doctor and hospital you have ever been to, your employment files and wage information, your tax records, and run credit or debt reports on you.
