Best Legal Advice For Michigan Motorcyclists
Three (3) Things All Michigan Motorcyclists Should Know
The Motorcycle Legal Minute™ was created by Jason Waechter, THE Motorcycle Lawyer, to explain Michigan’s motorcycle law in a short and easy to understand way.
Whenever I’m invited to speak to a motorcycle group, I always leave them with three pieces of advice.
First, have health insurance. The reason is: a biker is not entitled to no-fault benefits unless there is a car or truck involved in the crash. So, if the crash was from, say, a pothole, another motorcycle, loose gravel or a deer, there is no no-fault policy to pay your medical bills and that’s why I advise having health insurance -- it’s a back-up.
Secondly, I advise to insure your motorcycle. Yes, it’s the law and you can get a ticket, but the biggest reason is without it you are totally excluded from getting no-fault benefits. By not having just the most basic motorcycle insurance, you could be stuck owing hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Lastly, which may sound self-serving, after a crash, call a specializing lawyer.
I have seen letters from some personal injury lawyers to injured motorcyclists explaining the law incorrectly and at the detriment of the biker. So after wreck, consult a specializing lawyer like me, Jason Waechter, THE Motorcycle Lawyer.
