Three claims after a motorcycle accident

The Motorcycle Legal Minute™ was created by Jason Waechter, THE Motorcycle Lawyer, to explain Michigan’s motorcycle law in a short and easy to understand way.

Michigan law requires a motorcycle operated on the street to be insured, but what kind and how much insurance is required? To be legal, you only need what is called PLPD which stands for Personal Liability and Property Damage.

Personal Liability covers if you injure someone. We also call this Bodily Injury coverage.

Property Damage covers, as its name implies, if you damage someone’s personal property, other than a car.

The next question is how much do you have to have to be legal? The PLPD limits were recently raised to $250,000 but, if you sign a form acknowledging the risk, you can be legal with $50,000.

By having just this minimal, basic coverage, you are ‘legal,’ so no ticket. But, more importantly, without it you are excluded from receiving No-Fault benefits in an auto related crash.

There are many details about insurance that are not covered in this short Motorcycle Legal Minute. Please see our FREE eBooks for more information about this and other Michigan motorcycle law:
